SPECIAL EVENTS

During the school year there are many special events scheduled. Some of the highlights are listed below.

SEPTEMBER – The first days of school are orientation days for both the students and the parents. We have a very gradual introduction for the start of Nursery School. On the first day of school, the children come with their parents for one hour. On the second day of school the children stay for one and a half hours. After the orientation period regular class days begin. Our teachers are experienced in separation anxiety and help the students to feel welcome in their new surroundings.

OCTOBER – To celebrate Halloween, the children come to school in their costumes. There is great fun and excitement in guessing the children’s costumes. Parents and siblings are invited to join us for a hayride.

NOVEMBER - November brings a very special event to the school. All of the classes participate in Dad’s Night. This is a time when Dad comes to school in the evening with his nursery school child and spends time in the classroom. They make a craft together and enjoy refreshments in the Big Room. Also in November, the Pre-K classes learn about early America and enjoy Native American Folktales told by storyteller, Bill Wood.     The youngest class invites their moms for “Mom, Muffins and Me.” Parent-Teacher conferences are held prior to the Thanksgiving vacation.

DECEMBER – Christmas is always an exciting time at Nursery School. The children are busy making gifts, cards and wrapping paper  for their parents. Parents, grandparents, siblings and friends are invited to the special musical programs the students prepare for the Christmas parties. There is even a visit from Santa!

JANUARY – Winter songs, crafts and special activities warm the classrooms while outside the snow and cold winds blow.

FEBRUARY – Love is in the air as the children prepare for Valentine’s Day. The children make a Valentine for their parents and enjoy a Valentine Day Party with their friends.

MARCH – Parent-Teacher conferences are held this month. At the end of the month,  all classes will study the farm. The courtyard playground will become a farmyard obstacle course with eggs to gather, saddles to ride and a hay jump.  The farm unit will end with a petting farm visiting the school.

APRIL – Beautiful masterpieces fill the halls and classrooms during the Enrichment Class’s Art Show. The children in that class learn about the great masters of art and then create works of art in the style of the masters. Families and friends are invited to attend the show.

MAY – The classrooms are abuzz with preparations for Mother’s Day surprises. On the last day of school, all of the children participate in a Fun Fair. At the Fun Fair, the children play games, win prizes, refreshments are served, and the day ends with fun on the playground.
